Interpreting Your Financial Health Scorecard

Emergency Fund Coverage
Months of essential + housing expenses the current emergency fund could cover. Benchmark: 3-6 months is considered a healthy buffer against unexpected income loss or major expenses.
Savings Rate
Monthly savings and investing as a percentage of net income. Benchmark: 15-20%+ supports strong long-term goals such as retirement or financial independence. Below 5% is a red flag worth addressing immediately.
Debt-to-Income Ratio (Excl. Mortgage)
Non-mortgage debt payments as a percentage of income. Benchmark: below 15-20% is considered healthy. Above 36% total (including housing) is generally considered high risk by lenders and financial planners.
Housing Ratio
Housing payment as a percentage of net income. Benchmark: below 28-30% is the traditional affordability guideline. Above this level, housing costs begin to crowd out savings and other financial goals.
Composite Score
A weighted average of the four metric sub-scores (0-100 each), plus up to 15 bonus points for having a retirement account, adequate insurance, and an estate plan. It is a conversation-starter and prioritization tool, not a precise diagnostic.
Color Coding
Green = at or beyond benchmark. Amber = below benchmark but manageable. Red = below a threshold that typically warrants immediate attention and coaching action.
